Crossroads of Michigan – Volunteers

Volunteers are the heart of the Crossroads of Michigan organization. With ample opportunity to get involved, businesses, groups, and individuals find value in supporting with us.

Each week, organizations roll up their sleeves to run our Soup Kitchen. They provide a nutritious meal, food preparation, and service through the lunch. Meals are served Sundays from 12pm to 3pm to impoverished individuals and families in the community. Each gathering is an opportunity to provide a safe environment for consumption, a partnership in ministry, and enlightenment to the many other programs we offer our guests. To sponsor an upcoming Soup Kitchen service, please contact the supervisor Sr. Elizabeth Walters at ewalters@crossroadsofmichigan.org for more information.

Because our organization goes beyond the soup kitchen, there are many more ways to get involved. Social services are an important need. We provide many services including transportation, replacement identification and prescription support. These programs require hands on support in two main areas; social service receptionists to answer phones and check clients in and social service counselors to assist clients in overcoming hurdles to attain self-sufficiency and stability.  Positions do not require formal education, rather onsite training provided by us. For information, please contact coordinator Nicole Watters-Harris at: nwatters@crossroadsofmichigan.org.

The parent support group helper volunteer position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children. Whether you have experience as a parent or simply enjoy spending time with little ones, this position hosts volunteers to watch the children of participants in our parenting program. Classes run on Tuesdays at 11am. and 1pm at the center. To join, contact Tammi Shannon at tshannon@crossroadsofmichigan.org.

There are also data entry volunteer positions to help keep client information up to date. As well as one-day opportunities to accommodate busy schedules. For these opportunities or information on any other volunteer positions you can call us at 313-831-2787.
